Madagascar Seasons:

So many people consider that Madagascar is to be visited once in Lifetime. Indeed, the price of the international flight is not that cheap. It is nice to plan your visit with a professional Tour Operator like SOBEHA TOUR who has many years of background. The best time to go depends on your wish-to-see-list. There are two seasons in Madagascar:

– Rainy season: It goes from November to April. There are two subdivisions of rainy season. During the two first months (November and December), it rains only in afternoon and night. That’s why some people consider this period of time as dry season. It is rare to have rain in the morning. On that period, the rain is thick but it doesn’t last for so long time. From January to March (and sometimes until mid april), the rain is thin and it lasts longer. Although you may have some day with rain, it is possible to have few sunny days during the rainy season. It is hard to predict the weather. When you plan to travel along the RN7, you are likely to have a sunshine after Ambalavao except during the cyclone time.

– Dry Season: Officially, it starts from April to October. It doesn’t mean that you will have no rain at all during that period. For example, it is nice to be prepared to have some rain if you are going to travel in the East side of Madagascar at any time of the year. The rain makes that region as green as it is and full of endemic species. For information, the rainforst is still humid with some drops up to four hours after the rain has stopped.

As a general rule, April to December work well to visit Madagascar

Morondava, Ambatomilo, Toliara
Morondava, Ambatomilo, Toliara

• April avoids peak season and is ideal for lush landscapes, bounding lemurs and quiet parks and beaches.  April and May are noticeably greener months with verdant countryside following the rainier months. People start to go offroad from mid-April. SOBEHA TOUR start going offroad on June. The road to the Tsingy of Bemaraha is generally accessible from April 15th but it is too much challenging until end of May. The road between Morondava, Belo sur mer, Manja, Andavadoaka, Salary and Toliara is accessible by that time.

• July to November is the busiest season due to more people taking holidays. September to December is a great time for combining lemur watching, chameleons and beach holidays. October and November are excellent for baby lemurs even if lemurs in general can be seen year round. It is difficult to have a driver speaking English on that time. You should hire a driver + tour guide (02 persons) if you are looking for people speaking good English. SOBEHA TOUR works with tour guide speaking French, English, Italian, and Spanish. Their service is optional but highly recommended.

PS: Being prepared for all weather conditions is always recommended as weather patterns do not necessarily stick to the traditional seasons. Madagascar is a huge country and climate varies hugely depending on your geographic location.
